Our History and Leadership
Who We Are
At Santa Ana Federal Credit Union (SAFCU), we look forward to helping our Members take care of their day-to-day finances, as well as build a solid financial future for themselves. As a not-for-profit credit union, we do this by offering a wide range of free or low-cost financial services such as loans, savings, investments and account access solutions.
When you join SAFCU, you are a part-owner/Member of the credit union. SAFCU exists solely to meet the needs of our Members. There are no stockholders to pay. All profits are returned directly to the Membership in the form of higher dividend rates on savings and lower rates on loans.
A Tradition of Serving Members
The credit union was formed in 1950 to provide financial services to the employees of the city of Santa Ana. In that first year, the credit union had 18 Members and $829 in assets. Now, over 74 years later, the credit union proudly serves more than 6,000 Members and has over $74.5 million in assets. This has been accomplished by the remarkable leadership of a Board of Directors that has always been comprised of Members who have volunteered their time, talents and experience to the credit union movement. Board Members may have changed over the past 74 years, but one thing has never changed-SAFCU's commitment to putting the needs of our Members first.
The Present
In 2003 we expanded our field of Membership to include anyone (including people with ITINs) who lives, works, goes to school, or worships in the city of Santa Ana. Today, we are a full-service credit union dedicated to our Members. We offer the products and services needed to bank in today's complex financial world. We remain innovative by listening to our Members, and serving each and every one with a sincere smile on our face. We simply love what we do.
People Helping People Build a Better Community
Santa Ana is a vibrant, desirable place for people to live, work, worship, go to school, and raise a family. We feel proud to provide this beautiful community with a local, Member-owned financial institution that they can go to for all their financial needs.
CU Leadership
Our Board of Directors is comprised of SAFCU Members who are elected from the general Membership. They serve as unpaid volunteers. They do it because they believe in the credit union philosophy of People Helping People.
Each director brings a unique set of expertise, skills, and experience to the job. With diverse proficiencies in a wide range of disciplines such as accounting, marketing, finance, education, and management, our board represents a well-rounded and diverse collective. Their efforts ensure SAFCU's full-compliance of all industry mandates, by-laws, and regulations. Most importantly, they preserve our Members' financial and service interests.
Become a Volunteer!
We are seeking qualified volunteers who want to make a difference in their credit union by serving on one of our various committees, and YOU may be just the person we need!
Volunteers serve to guide SAFCU into the future, participating in monthly committee/board meetings and attending our annual Planning Session. Being a volunteer means playing an important role in carrying on the credit union philosophy of People Helping People. SAFCU Membership is required, and potential volunteers will be vetted for financial responsibility. If you would like to make a difference for your credit union and the local community, please see us for more details and an application today!
